The region has been designated as a “land of games 2024,” as, apart from Île-de-France, it will host the largest number of events for the Olympic Games.
Among the scheduled events, you’ll find football in Nice and Marseille, sailing competitions at the Marina du Roucas-Blanc, which has been renovated and expanded specifically to accommodate 330 athletes during the 12 days of competition. Windsurfing, Kitesurfing, Skiff, dinghies, and multihulls, among others, will take place here.
Moreover, the 2030 Winter Olympic Games will most likely take place between the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Southern regions. Nice will host ice hockey competitions. To prepare for this, the city plans to build a new ice rink near Allianz, replacing the Jean Bouin complex, and create a small village for athletes in the Var plain. This initiative will also involve the construction of new housing, potentially for students.
This demonstrates the region’s and Nice’s genuine commitment to hosting the Olympic Games, justifying their title as a “land of games.” The decision will be announced by the end of summer 2024.
