Between Paris-Nice and the Tour de France, the Mercan’Tour Classic is one of the most anticipated cycling events of the year, combining the physical challenge of the competition with the natural splendor of the Alpes-Maritimes.
More than just a race, this event offers a true immersion into the breathtaking landscapes of the region, highlighting its hidden treasures and winding roads that promise both challenges for the cyclists and unforgettable panoramas for spectators.
The 2024 edition, for which we were one of the main partners, certainly lived up to these expectations.
The Course: A Challenge for the Bravest
This year, the course, which will be replicated by the riders of the Tour de France, was designed to test the limits of the cyclists, with dizzying ascents and technical descents. Participants will have the opportunity to climb some of the most famous and feared mountain passes, such as the Col de la Bonette, often claimed to be the highest paved mountain pass in Europe, reaching 2,802 meters. With its stunning views and steep slopes, this pass is a must-do and symbolizes the grandeur and toughness of the region.
The Incomparable Beauty of the Mercantour
The race passes through the Mercantour National Park, one of the most wild and preserved regions of France. This park is a true natural gem, home to exceptional flora and fauna. Cyclists may be lucky enough to spot chamois, marmots, and, with a bit of luck, the majestic golden eagle soaring above the peaks.
The Mercantour is also rich in history and culture. Riders will pass through picturesque perched villages like Saint-Martin-Vésubie, often referred to as the “Swiss of Nice” due to its alpine landscapes.
A Region to Discover
For cycling enthusiasts and nature lovers, the Mercan’Tour Classic is an invitation to discover a region that combines wild beauty with athletic challenge. The event offers a unique opportunity to dive into the heart of the Alpes-Maritimes, breathe the fresh mountain air, and marvel at the stunning landscapes.
The Mercan’Tour Classic is not just about high-level competition, but is also a celebration of everything the region has to offer. Between physical effort and constant awe, this race is a tribute to the grandeur of nature and the indomitable spirit of the cyclists who take on the challenge.
A big congratulations to Lenny Martinez for his impressive victory in this edition, and we look forward to next year for the 5th anniversary of this beautiful race that wonderfully showcases our region.
